Abstract

Genetic counselling is a skill, possibly an art, not taught at university or college. Not all healthcare workers are equipped to deal with parents who are expecting a newborn with multiple congenital abnormalities. What do you actually tell the parents? To whom can they be referred for further management? Do you have any obligation to notify the health authorities of the case? How do you paint a bright picture for the future of this child?
