oa SA Pharmacist's Assistant - How to help your pharmacy contribute to a green South Africa : professional practice
A thought to consider: Earth, as it is now in 2010, cannot supply the resources (food and water) needed by the current population. Millions go hungry every day and do not have access to clean water. There are parts of our country where citizens are facing terrible consequences if rain does not fall in that part of the country soon. A statistic I read the other day is that by 2030 the world will need another Earth to supply the resources needed for life. The biggest challenge facing us is the massive population explosion. Every week, a city equivalent to Cairo (approximately 1,5 million, nearly 221000 people per day) is added to the surface of the Earth - and with the addition of those millions is the requirement for water, sanitation, food and other services. The world population was estimated at 6,707 million in July 2008. The best contribution to the future of the Earth is to cut the birthrate! Some countries now have a negative birthrate - South Africa is not one of those.
