Abstract

The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is a retrovirus which enters lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell, and replicates. Th is leads to a progressive destruction of the body's immune system, until the infected person becomes unable to fight infection and develops acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS).
