A variety of mouthwashes and gargles, containing various ingredients, are available, both in supermarkets and in pharmacies. Some of these products contain antiseptics and/or local anaesthetics, and may be used in the treatment of minor painful mouth and throat conditions. Others contain fluoride or thymol, and are used to help prevent tooth decay, or freshen the breath.
