Abstract

Gastroenteritis is inflammation of the lining of the stomach and intestines. It presents as diarrhoea, abdominal cramps, nausea and vomiting. Gastroenteritis may have many causes, of which viral, bacterial or parasitic infections are most common. Well-known forms of gastroenteritis include traveller's diarrhoea, food poisoning and rotavirus infection.
