Scar formation is a normal body reaction to any injury - open wound. A scar can develop due to a variety of injuries such as burns, deep lacerations, surgery, also other injuries that penetrate the skin. Chronic ulcerations can lead to extensive scaring if the wounds are not managed well. Scar formation can continue for a period of time even after wound closure is achieved.
