The genus Agathosma (Rutaceae) consists of approximately 150 species indigenous to South Africa. These aromatic shrubs that are typical of the fynbos vegetation are found in most habitats throughout the Cape Floral Kingdom. Agathosma betulina ('round-leaf buchu') is characterised by a smaller, round leaf with a recurved apex whereas Agathosma crenulata ('oval-leaf buchu') is characterised by a larger, oval-shaped leaf without the recurved apex.
