Abstract

Community-acquired respiratory tract infections such as otitis media, sinusitis, pharyngitis, bronchitis and community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) are the most common reasons for prescribing antibiotics in the primary care setting. However, viruses rather than bacteria cause the majority of these upper respiratory tract infections (URTIs).
