There are many conditions, injuries and diseases that affect human feet. The fact that humans have developed a bipedal gait (on two feet) has caused many of the modern foot ailments. Some are more serious than others and these biomechanical and orthopaedic conditions are treated by the podiatrist. Some of the more common ones are discussed here in part four of the series of foot and podiatry related topics in this Journal. A short description and treatment protocol is given of each condition, but most of these conditions are best treated by the podiatrist and other medical professionals.

This article does not cover all the foot and foot related conditions, injuries and diseases that can affect the human foot.
