After completing his schooling, Vincent embarked on his goal to become a pharmacist. He was apprenticed to Mr Ernest Eckhoff in Ridge Road, having to pay his own way through his studies. Vincent sailed through his pharmacy examinations with flying colors, being ranked as one of the top students in the country. In 1950 he registered as a Chemist and Druggist in the Union of South Africa. In 1973, he became a doctor of Naturopathy through the College of Natural Sciences and in 1983 became an Honorary Life member of the Pharmaceutical Society and in the same year was invited to become a Fellow of the Society. In 1991 he became a Fellow of the Homoeopathic Association.
Having spent most of 2010 focusing on the role of pharmacists in dealing with patient safety, it is time to sit back and reflect on the health care system in general, and on broader dimensions of patient safety.
