Medical practitioners and pharmacists are obliged to keep abreast of information relating to dangerous drug interactions. This poses significant challenges for health practitioners. Continuous review of medical journals for reports of drug to drug interactions is one way to update knowledge that eventually shapes the standard of care. However, for the individual pharmacist or doctor this is a time consuming activity. Recent technological advances, such as computerised drug-to-drug interaction software packages are gaining increasing recognition as a means of reducing medication errors.
