Obesity is a chronic disease that is increasing in prevalence in adults, adolescents and children. It is now considered to be a global epidemic. It is estimated that more than one in three women are obese. Obesity impacts negatively on the health of women and increases their risk of developing conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, stroke and cancer. By reducing their weight, obese women can lower their risk of these conditions, and in some cases, control the disease. This article reviews the complications that are associated with obesity in women.
