To obtain a degree in pharmacy, students are required to attain certain competencies, including the provision of education and information on health care and medicine, and the promotion of community health. According to the World Health Organization, "Health promotion is the process of enabling people to increase control over, and to improve, their health. It moves beyond a focus on individual behaviour, towards a wide range of social and environmental interventions". In order to prepare students for their future role in health promotion, an assignment on tuberculosis was developed by the Rhodes University Faculty of Pharmacy.
