oa SA Pharmaceutical Journal - Medicine shortages - finding local solutions to a global problem : forum

Abstract

Medicine shortages are a fact of everyday life, not only in South Africa but globally. Internationally, minimising and managing stock-outs has become a priority. Management of financial and human resources becomes a challenge when measures to deal with the shortages and their consequences are put in place.

In June 2013, the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP), together with the Canadian Pharmacists Association, hosted a summit to identify the causes and impact of medicine shortages, and to explore ways of dealing with them. Participants included governments, healthcare practitioners, the pharmaceutical industry and patients.
