oa SA Pharmaceutical Journal - Combination cold and flu medication for children : a guide for pharmacists : review

Abstract

The common cold is one of the most frequent illnesses that is encountered in children. In fact, children's colds cause more doctor visits and missed school days than any other illness. Although colds are self-limiting, many parents and caregivers may choose to purchase over-the-counter medicines for symptomatic relief. Differentiating between colds and influenza is needed to determine the appropriate treatment option, and to make a decision about whether or not referral is required.
