oa SA Pharmaceutical Journal - Fellowship of the PSSA : PSSA perspective

Fellowship is important in a voluntary organisation such as ours. This short history is intended to improve that understanding and appreciation and encourage branches and sectors to identify persons, who through their significant contribution to the profession and the Pharmaceutical Society, would be worthy of the recognition. Fellowship has been described as a Community of interest, Companionship, a Brotherhood, a Fraternity or a Guild. A Fellow on the other hand can be described as a comrade or colleague, elected with certain privileges, to a college or a guild. The recognition of Fellowship within the PSSA started in the 1970's, when Julius Israelsohn and others deemed it necessary and appropriate to recognise certain members for exceptional and meritorious service to the Society, at National, Branch and Sector level.
