Abstract

At the commencement of 1953 a large scale immunisation campaign against tuberculosis was initiated amongst the Africans domiciled in the Mine Compounds of the Northern Rhodesian Copperbelt, using a living vole vaccine (Wells, 1946) manufactured in Nkana, Northern Rhodesia. Prior to commencing the campaign it was decided to compare the results obtained in Africans with the Mantoux test at a level of 10 T.U. and the reactions produced by the Heaf Multiple Puncture Apparatus (Heaf 1951).
