Abstract

The discovery of artificial radioactivity and the subsequent production of radioactive isotopes have given applied medicine a powerful new tool both for therapy and research. These isotopes have opened up new fields in experimental physiology and diagnostics and in many ways are proving a valuable adjunct to X-rays, radium and radon in the treatment of many types of disease. It is proposed in these papers to give a brief survey of what they are and to indicate some of the uses to which they are being put.
