Abstract

In conclusion, one would stress the following guides to treatment of electrolyte disorders: firstly, individual therapy; secondly, the replacement of large losses, with due regard to their composition; thirdly, the recognition and judicious treatment of potassium deficiency; fourthly, the avoidance of large quantities of intravenous saline or glucose without knowledge of the patient's fluid and salt loss; and lastly, the dangers of overloading the circulation in old patients and children.
