Abstract

Seven cases of ocular syphilis are presented, three congenital interstitial keratitis and four acquired conditions, viz., iritis, neuritis papulosa, retrobulbar neuritis and optic atrophy. The role of indiscriminate use of penicillin is discussed in relation to a masking effect on primary and cutaneous syphilis and on promoting ocular complications. The ocular manifestations were the presenting symptoms of the infection in all seven cases.
