Abstract

The mean body weights of a sample of African village men drawn from a prosperous district of Malawi during two good years are calculated and shown to differ considerably from the standard weights given for African men in a table used in East Africa. The latter was based on a sample of presumed Caucasians, and the possibilities that the difference may be due to nutritional, climatic or racial factors are discussed without any firm conclusion being reached.
