Abstract

The results are given of an analysis by month of examination of the body weights of 7,029 African villagers. A wide fluctuation by season is demonstrated and is shown to be statistically significant. The reasons for the fluctuation are sought and found in the annual dietary and occupational cycle. It is shown to' be due in part to uneconomic use of resources, but that underproduction of foodstuffs is also responsible. The need for further agricultural diversification, and for the education of the villagers in the full and proper use of what they have, is pointed out. The incidence and significance of obesity in villagers are discussed in a terminal digression.
