Abstract

On the assumption that the success of investigation into the geography of disease, particularly tumour pathology, is greatly enhanced by personal visitation, such a safari has been undertaken. The immediate fruits and frustrations of the journey are descriptionbed. The ultimate hoped for benefit is the establishment of reliable cancer registries in the hospitals visited and a much more regular receipt of more accurate returns from each hospital. It is too early as yet to be able to assess this. With the exception of a few instances the safari was throughout enjoyable, interesting and profitable. At every hospital, without exception, we were warmly welcomed and, with a single exception. We found junior officials friendly, helpful and courteous, even if at times frustratingly slow. We are grateful for the kindness and help we received and are full of admiration for the devoted and courageous lives of the doctors we met.
