Abstract

No case of vitamin D deficiency rickets was found in a survey of 224 African infants in Salisbury. In comparing the reported incidence of rickets in different series note must be taken of the diagnostic criteria employed. In particular, attention is drawn to the unreliability of physical signs in establishing a positive diagnosis. I am grateful to Dr. Stamps for allowing me to examine infants attending an immunization clinic.
