Abstract

Radioimmunoassay is a valuable and powerful tool in medical practice and in physiological research. Knowledge of hormone levels has lead to a greater understanding of the physiological changes which occur in animals and of the interrelationships between different hormones. Clinically, knowledge of hormone levels has aided diagnosis and treatment of many endocrine disorders. Finally, it appears that any hormonally-active compound can be measured by RIA. Apart from peptide and steroid hormones, RIA's have been developed by Oliver (1968) for digoxin and for guanosine 3'5' cyclic monophosphate by Steiner(1969) .
