Abstract

An epidemic of a fever closely resembling dengue is descriptionbed. It occurred on the Makonde Plateau in the southern province of Tanganyika, where the people provide ideal breeding grounds for large numbers of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. The disease had never been encountered in the area before and the epidemic started with alarming severity. After a few months this declined and the disease itself became less distinctive.
