Abstract

Werner's syndrome is descriptionbed in an African female patient and the literature reviewed. It is a rare condition characterised by features of premature ageing, loss of subcutaneous fat, flexion deformities, pigmentation, cataracts and diabetes. It is occasionally confused with scleroderma but the clinical features and histology should help the clinician to make a correct diagnosis. Very occasionally other rare conditions such as dystrophia myotonia, Rothmund s syndrome and Progeria may have to be considered.
