Abstract

An outbreak of acute pulmonary histoplasmosis in a reopened mine shaft is reported. The history and clinical features of the disease are briefly discussed and some of the more important literature is reviewed. The differential diagnosis and some of the factors important in the epidemiology of the condition are discussed and the suggestion is made that the disease may be an as yet unrecognized cause of sickness in the mining industry.
