Abstract

We recommend the early diagnosis of the ruptured prostato-membranous urethra, which occurs as a complication of a fractured pelvis. so that early definitive repair can be carried out. Rupture can be suspected on clinical grounds and confirmed by gentle catheterization and radiography after injection through the catheter of radio-opaque medium. Early repair by the trans pubic approach gives primary union without stricture formation. If the general condition does not allow an immediate repair, a suprapubic catheter should be introduced initially, and when a stricture at the point of rupture follows, the transpubic approach is equally useful for excision and repair of this stricture.
