Abstract

A case is presented of phaeochromocytoma arising from the organs of Zuckerkandl. The patient went into hypertensive encephalopathy and renal failure prior to surgery. The tumour was successfully removed and mild hypertension has remained which is well controlled on methyldopa. There is no evidence of a second tumour or of any recurrence. This is believed to be the eleventh case of phaeochromocytoma arising from the organs of Zuckerkandl with successful surgical removal and amelioration of hypertension.
