Abstract

Fasting and one hour post-prandial serum concentrations of cholesterol, triglyceride, L (Iarge), M (medium), and S (small) lipoprotein particle concentrations of nine Malawian men were determined. There was no significant change in the fasting and one hour post-prandial cholesterol, M and S particle values. The triglyceride and L particle concentrations were significantly increased after the meal. The serum concentrations of cholesterol, triglyceride and lipoprotein fractions of 102 nonfasting Malawian men and 11 Malawian women were determined. There was no significant change with age in males in any of the serum components investigated. There was no significant difference between the male and female levels. The subjects with abnormal lipoprotein pattern were overweight, and older than a large majority of the subjects.
