At Harari Hospital over a three-year period, a diagnosis of non-specific arthritis was made in 77 patients. On review 47 of these patients had a non-specific polyarthritis, with fever and a raised sedimentation rate. The disease is self limiting and chronicity does not occur. The symptoms are suppressed by salicylates. On comparison with series reported elsewhere in Africa, it appears to be the same clinical entity. The cause is unknown, and possible aetiologies are discussed.
