Abstract

The present study compares the value of the Acridine Orange technique and the Giemsa staining technique for the detection of Dipetalonema perstans in blood films. The study revealed that the Acridine technique was at least as sensitive as the older Giemsa technique, but proved quicker and less tiring to use. The differentiation of Wuchereria banerofti and Dipetalonema perstans microfilariae when stained with Acridine is discussed.
