Abstract

The recent world-wide upsurge in sexually transmitted diseases (STD) has caused widespread concern. Syphilis and gonorrhea have attracted most attention, but of increasing interest are non-specific urethritis, trichomoniasis, genital candidosis, and, in tropical areas, chancroid (soft sore). There are no accurate figures of STD in Rhodesia and the epidemiology is unknown. This review outlines the incidence, disease spectrum and importance of STD in Rhodesia. This is part one in the series.
