Abstract

Suicide continues to be more common in the European than in the African in Rhodesia. The most usual method of suicide in the African is by hanging, whereas in the European it is by shooting, poisoning or taking drugs. In this study there seemed to be more suicides among rural Africans than townsmen. The incidence of attempted suicide among both rural and urban Shona was not significantly different, and, like among Europeans, was more frequent among girls.
