Abstract

Investigation of the leucocyte ascorbic acid levels of groups of healthy Africans and Scots shows the former to have the higher levels. No significant differences in the L.A.A. levels were found between selected African and Scots hospital patients. Some doubt is, therefore, thrown on the thesis that the heavy R.E. iron deposits in Bantu siderosis are due to ascorbic acid deficiency.
