Abstract

A tuberculosis survey of all African primary school children in the city of Salisbury was undertaken during the twelve month period 1975/76. It involved a total of 41 000 children aged seven to 14 years and was done on a purely voluntary basis, but, even so, had a 90 percent acceptance rate among parents. The heaf multiple puncture method was used and only those children whose reactions were Heaf grades III and IV were regarded as positive. All positive reactors were fully investigated clinically; radiologically and with laboratory tests where appropriate.
