Abstract

Medicine is a vocation towards which many of its followers feel an intense attraction and interest divorced from any incentive towards material gain, the main reason being the desire to serve humanity by the relief of suffering. It is not just a form of employment, career or occupation. As large a proportion of women entering our profession do so with this aim as men, but the sacrifice which they must make to attain their aim is greater.
