Abstract

In infancy the resolution of the adverse effects of bereavement depends on the provision of an adequate substitute mother figure without awareness of the subject. In childhood the availability and quality of committed persons who can act as substitutes for the lost love object in the family and society, will play vital roles in the outcome of the profound loss. The subject is semi-aware and the task of the substituting figure is prodigious. The relatively mature person with a hurt mind"" i.e. one who has experienced deprivation as descriptionbed above will have problems with bereavement.
