Abstract

Diffuse intravascular coagulation occurs in association with a number of conditions and extensive literature is available on the subject. The purpose of this paper is simply to document our experience in the investigation and treatment of severe measles infection in children, the reasons for our decision to screen all but the mildest cases of measles for burr cells by study of peripheral blood smears and to anticoagulate those patients in whom burr cells are found.
