Abstract

This paper descriptionbes a project where labour was induced in a non-doctor municipal unit in 36 patients who were post term. The pregnancies were otherwise completely normal. Nineteen' delivered uneventfully in the municipal unit, 17 were transferred to hospital because some complication arose. We found that the patients were well selected and the labours were conducted conscientiously and well. However one patient had a ruptured uterus, a complication which reminded us of the danger of the procedure and the advisability of performing it where theatre facilities are immediately available.
