Abstract

The technological developments of the twentieth century have been accompanied by a marked increase in disabling injuries, resulting from accidents in industry, on the road and in the home. Among the good things to emerge during the latter half of this century are, firstly, great advances in the treatment and rehabilitation of the handicapped, and secondly, a more enlightened attitude of society towards them. This includes architectural considerations of access to buildings and facilities, recognition of the need for occupational training and employment opportunities, and of the important part played by sport in the rehabilitation of the disabled.
