Abstract

Eosinophilic leucocytes in peripheral blood were determined simultaneously during measurements of total serum immunoglobulin E In patients with onchocerciasis. Using Pearson's correlation formula, a positive linear association was found between eosinophil percentage and total serum immunoglobulin E (r = 0,58 P < 0,02). This preliminary report suggests that determination of peripheral eosinophil leucocytes percentages may be used as an indirect measure of the level of total serum immunoglobulin E, in laboratory assessment of allergy or clinical entities in which elevated total serum immunoglobulin E IS suspected.
