Abstract

1. The mental disturbances resulting from guerilla warfare include all types of mental disease. 2. They affect patients of all ages and both sexes, but the adherents to certain religious faiths are more susceptible. 3. Guerilla warfare does not cause an increase in mental troubles; usually, it causes a decrease 4. In authentic cases, i.e. in those whose mental disturbances undoubtedly originated from guerilla warfare, there is probably a period of maturation between cause and effect. 5. The explanation of the over-all decrease in mental diseases in communities exposed to guerilla warfare is uncertain. It may be attributable to an increase in tolerance, and the development of a vegetative mentality, or to a tendency to exteriorize aggressive behaviour. 6. The reduction in neuroses is probably because neurotics tend to forget their preoccupations when faced with the more important problem of keeping alive.
