Three children with haemorrhagic syndromes of undetermined origin were admitted to the Paediatrics Department of Solwezi General Hospital, between October 1976 and May 1977. All of them were cases of platelet disorders: onyalai, idiopathic thrombocytosis and idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura. The diagnosis is of the conditions was based on clinical evaluation and through haematological investigations. Each case in the study was subjected to the relevant treatment including transfusion of the whole blood, corticosteroids (in cases of onyalai and idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura) and cytotoxic drugs (in case of idiopathic thrombocytosis). The response to treatment was quite satisfactory and all the patients are still alive.
