Abstract

The bacteriological studies in the present investigation confirmed that gonococcal strains significantly resistant to penicillin have not as yet developed in Salisbury but this possibility may occur in the future if, as; is suspected, subminimal dosages continue to 'be administered in illegal ""clinics"" run by unqualified people. The serological GCFT does not provide adequate laboratory diagnosis for acute gonococcal infections so that recognition of this disease at an early stage remains dependent on clinical judgement and the appearance of gram negative intra-cellular diplococci on direct smear.
