Abstract

A case of Takayasu's disease in association with a Still's-like syndrome is reported in a nine-year-old African boy. The child presented with arthritis, listlessness and abdominal pain. Examination confirmed the arthritis. Radial and brachial pulses were -absent, 'the child was pyrexial and clubbed and hepatosplenomegaly was detected. A systolic murmur was heard over the praecordium and a probable aortic aneurysm noted. Investigations revealed an anaemia, leukocytosis, raised ESR and positive rheumatoid factor. Arteriography demonstrated a widespread arteritic process. Partial response to steroid therapy was achieved with -improvement of the systemic illness but pulses failed to return.
