Abstract

A series of forty cases of nickel dermatitis in a period of 18 months is reported. Nickel contact dermatitis can be missed if a high degree of suspicion and awareness is not maintained. The incidence in women was more than twelve times that in men, and this is the general world-wide pattern. Secondary nickel dermatitis can be extremely disabling -and is usually avoidable if nickel dermatitis is diagnosed in the primary stage. The importance of ingested nickel in this condition is also discussed.
