Abstract

Laveran, briefly, gave to the world two new words. Laveranity, as Manson-Bahr notes, was attributed, especially in the Indian Medical Service, to those who claimed to have seen Laveran's parasite. Laverania was the name initially used for the malarial parasite Plasmodium falciparum. Both words in different ways, illustrate the apathy with which Laveran's discovery was received.
