Abstract

Haemangiopericytoma is a neoplasm of vascular origin, deriving from the pericytes of Zimmerman. It is locally invasive in all cases with 50% resulting in distant metastases over a life time. Morphological features do not distinguish between those which give distant metastases and those that do not. Wide surgical excision gives 50% five year cure rate. The place of chemotherapy and irradiation needs further clinical evaluation before being accepted as playing a significant role in the management of these tumours. This paper considers the incidence, clinical features and management of six cases seen in Salisbury from 1972-1976. A limited review of the literature is given.
